I recently did a photo shoot at a private airport with a couple of models (and about 25 other photographers). Since we were all shooting the same models at the same location, I decided to shoot everything with my Canon 50mm lens at F1.4 on my Canon EOS 7D. This would, hopefully, give my pictures a different look than everyone else’s.

I really had check and double-check my focus because the depth-of-field was often quite shallow. I used auto-focus and manual focus, depending on the composition. It wasn’t easy and some of my photos ended up kind of soft.

I like the results. This was the first time I consciously tried to limit my depth-of-field with a large aperture. I’m going to be doing this more often on my shoots from now on.
